Programme Applicant Entrance Criteria: PG DIP Programmes

What are the requirements for a Candidate to qualify for the PG DIP programmes?

In 2012 in total, the programme will train and place at host companies:

  • Up to 40 candidates on the BA SA 2012 programme (BASA 2012)
  • Up to 30 candidates on the Software Development 2012 programme (SWD 2012)
  • Up to 30 candidates on the ICT Application and Infrastructure Management 2012 Programme (ITAIM 2012)

Potential candidates for these programmes must meet the following basic entrance criteria

  1. Be motivated to pursue a career in the area of the programme (ie Business Analysis and Systems Analysis, or Software Development, or ICT Application and Infrastructure Management)
    AND
  2. Be a South African citizen
    AND
  3. Be aged between 21 and 35 years as at the programme start date
    AND
  4. Should either be unemployed or not employed in their preferred career, with the following specific conditions for the various programmes:
    1. For BA SA 2012 and SWD 2012 preference will be given to graduates with no previous IT-related degree who are unemployed.
  5. Information Systems, Computer Science and Engineering graduates will only be considered for BA SA 2012 and SWD 2012 if they have either been unemployed for at least 6 months, or if they are currently employed in an area outside of their chosen career. (This is because the programme's key objective is to fast-track non-IT graduates into IT careers due to the shortage of graduate level IT skills.) The 6 month restriction does not apply for IT graduates applying for ITSM.
    AND
  6. Must have any (completed) graduate degree for which they attained at least 60% grade point average (GPA) OR have consistently achieved 60% for at least the last 2 years of the degree (Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) criteria may be applied on a case by case basis for candidates with National Diplomas or uncompleted degrees who also have extensive work experience. Disabled candidates will be evaluated on a case by case basis.)
    AND
  7. Must not have been employed on any other internship programme within the past 2 years (excluding internship undertaken in the normal course of their undergraduate or Honours degree)
    AND
  8. Must meet the BEE and other recruitment requirements, and pass the relevant recruitment tests, of the host companies (as defined by the host companies) and the relevant SETA of the host company
    AND
  9. Be resident in Cape Town for the full duration of the programme OR be willing and able to travel to Cape Town to attend the Training Modules

In addition: Candidates must also meet the following criteria

  • Must sign an internship agreement with a Host Company and other related legal documentation required by the SETA, DoC, UCT, PGWC and CITi
  • Must meet all the relevant university's registration criteria (which includes not having any outstanding student fees owed to the university)

  • Must attend at least 80% of the in-class training and at least 80% of the internship support groups and complete all essays, assignments and projects on time. Candidates who do not achieve an average of at least 50% at mid-year may be excluded from the programme
  • Certain programmes may require candidates to have laptop computers and candidates may be expected to contribute to the cost of these laptops using their stipend funding.
  • In the event that programme training funding is not confirmed by the programme start date or approved at all, candidates may be required to apply for bursary funding and/or to fund the training themselves should they not meet the bursary related requirements of their host company, host company SETA or other funders.
